System & products
Signal chain and products Signal flows left to right. The controller (ECU / MCU / VCU) has four independent acquisition paths, shown separately in the diagram.
Products and specifications
Controller acquisition channels Four access paths into the ECU / MCU / VCU
Access method 1. Vehicle bus Listen-only on CAN / CAN FD; the logger transmits nothing 2. XCP Cyclic DAQ of ECU internal variables via A2L, on CAN / CAN FD, up to 4 event channels and 128 variables 3. OBD port OneCANFD plugs into OBD-II for on-the-spot capture with a laptop 4. Harness tap A custom cable taps signals at the ECU / MCU connector into the DAQ module as physical values
Why it wins
All four paths run at once — bus messages, ECU internals and analogue values from the harness land in one MF4 The XCP master is off by default and only sends commands when explicitly enabled in the configuration The harness tap is what calibration engineers actually lack — it captures the analogue values that never appear on the bus
Temperature sensors Type K / J / T thermocouples and resistive elements (Pt100 / Pt1000 / PTC)
Our product Type K thermocouples in a range of sheath and termination styles (examples) Types offered Type K / J / T thermocouples (voltage) and resistive Pt100 / Pt1000 / PTC
Why it wins
We supply all three thermocouple types and resistive elements, so the hot engine side and the cold battery side come from one source Sheath diameter, length and termination are made to the target, so nothing has to be compromised to fit a catalogue item Interfaces are pre-matched to our own extension wire and DAQ modules
Pressure sensors Gauge, vacuum and absolute
Our product Types offered Gauge, vacuum and absolute
Why it wins
Gauge, vacuum and absolute are all available, so intake, exhaust and fuel systems come from one source Range and port are made to the target, so one measurement point does not force you to buy a whole series
Flow sensors Fuel, water and air
Our product Why it wins
Fuel flow has the most demand and the fewest suppliers in automotive testing Fuel, water and air come from one family, so fuel-economy and thermal work share the same measurement chain
Accelerometers and load cells For crash testing — availability to be confirmed
Why it wins
Crash measurement is governed by the sample-rate and CFC filtering requirements of SAE J211 and ISO 6487, so compliance must be confirmed first
Current sensors (HIOKI) Two ranges: high current and low current
HIOKI High current (EV powertrain) CT6877A: 2000 A AC/DC rated, DC–1 MHz, 80 mm aperture, −40 to 85 °C Accuracy of the above Amplitude ±0.048 % (DC and 50/60 Hz), phase ±0.08° (50/60 Hz) — HIOKI published figures Low current (auxiliaries and cabin) CT6830: 100 µA–2 A / CT6831: 1 mA–20 A, DC–100 kHz, ±0.3 % of reading, −40 to 85 °C Connection to third-party equipment Via a CT9555 / CT9556 / CT9557 power unit it connects to third-party DAQ or oscilloscopes Intermediate range CT6876A: 1000 A, DC–1.5 MHz
Why it wins
One brand covers both ends — finish with the powertrain, move to dark current, and the customer never needs a second supplier The EV powertrain needs hundreds to 2000 A while the cabin and auxiliaries need mA to µA — entirely different sensors, and the proposal is only complete with both Both ranges operate from −40 to 85 °C, so they can stay in the vehicle long-term Model numbers and figures come from HIOKI's published material. Final model selection and combined accuracy still need our own confirmation
ETAS CBS100 smart lambda sensor cable Lambda: LSU 4.9 + CBS100 into the INDEX DAQ
ETAS Function Converts the signal of a Bosch LSU 4.9 wideband lambda sensor into an analogue voltage output Output quantity Configurable as oxygen content O2, lambda value or pump current Ip Built in LSU 4.9 heater control and signal conditioning Sensor end RB150 connector straight to the LSU 4.9 Output end Open cable end, wired to a voltage channel on the INDEX DAQ Family CBS104: LSM11 emulation (voltage O2). Our product Current module 16 channels, used with HIOKI current sensors Voltage module 16 channels Multi-function module 16 channels, switchable between voltage, temperature, NTC and resistance
Why it wins
One multi-function board covers four measurement types, so changing what you measure on site does not mean changing modules Mixing temperature and voltage channels puts thermal and electrical behaviour on one timebase Add or remove modules per project instead of buying a higher-tier instrument just for channel count
Portable power analyser Developed and built in-house
Our product Channels 6 current, 32 voltage, 3 speed Data accuracy 0.05 % Isolation rating 5,000 V Timebase sync error 6 µs (measured) Benchmarked against HIOKI PW8001 Price level About one quarter of comparable instruments

Documents the customer provides Imported into IDX Studio, then pushed to the logger
Customer supplies A2L (ASAP2) Defines the ECU's internal variables. Which values XCP acquires, and at what rate, comes entirely from this file DBC Defines CAN / CAN FD messages and signals, used to decode raw frames into engineering units LDF The LIN description file, needed when using the LIN channels on the expansion module ECU / MCU connector and pin assignment Required before we can build the harness tap and custom cables Measurement point list (range, sample rate) Determines the module count and channel allocation Seed & key Needed for protected ECUs. Not supported in the current version, so confirm in advance
Why it wins
A2L and DBC are imported in IDX Studio, variables are selected there, and the configuration is pushed to the logger — which then runs without a PC The file header records the hash of the A2L / DBC used, so you can later confirm which version decoded the data Whether these files are available decides when the project can start, so it is worth confirming them at the quotation stage

Q01 What does INDEX GIKEN do? INDEX GIKEN develops, manufactures and sells sensors, cables, DAQ modules, loggers and software for automotive testing and calibration. As an ETAS distributor and HIOKI partner, it delivers complete measurement systems from the sensor to the analysis. The company is based in Shizuoka City, Japan.
Q02 Which products does INDEX GIKEN make itself? The DataLog Lite / Pro in-vehicle data loggers, OneCANFD (a CAN FD interface for the OBD port), 16-channel DAQ modules (multi-function, voltage, current), thermocouple, pressure and flow sensors, custom and harness-tap cables, a portable power analyzer, and the IDX Studio and IDX DataLog Remote software.
Q03 What are the main specifications of DataLog Lite? 4 × CAN FD (1 Mbit/s nominal, 5 Mbit/s measured in the data phase); exFAT TF card up to 512 GB; records raw CAN frames, DBC-decoded physical values, XCP variables and video; starts recording 4.5 s after power-up; 0.0000 % frame loss over 9 hours with all four channels saturated; at most 5 s of data lost on a power cut; ASAM MF4 4.10 output. It is pre-release, so specifications are subject to the official release.
Q04 How accurate is the time synchronisation across the system? Sensors, DAQ, loggers and software share one timebase; the measured system-wide time sync error is 6 µs.
Q05 How do you read ECU internal variables and bus data? There are four access paths: (1) listen-only on CAN / CAN FD, the logger transmits nothing; (2) XCP: cyclic DAQ via A2L, on CAN / CAN FD, up to 4 event channels and 128 variables; (3) the OBD port: OneCANFD plugs into OBD-II for capture with a laptop; (4) a harness tap with a custom cable on the ECU harness. For full ECU calibration, ETAS INCA (CCP, XCP, KWP-on-CAN, UDS) is added.
Q06 Which data formats do you output? The loggers write ASAM MF4 (4.10) and export to CSV and MAT. The file header stores the hash of the DBC / A2L used, so the configuration version is traceable.
Q07 What is your relationship with ETAS and HIOKI? INDEX GIKEN is an ETAS distributor, selling and supporting INCA (ECU calibration), MDA (analysis), CBS100, ES4xx measurement modules, ES5xx interface modules and the lambda module. In partnership with HIOKI it offers configurations with the CT6877A high-current sensor, CT6830 / CT6831 low-current probes, the LR8450 logger and the PW8001 power analyzer.
Q08 Which kinds of tests is it suited to? From in-vehicle measurement in the engine bay and bench tests to unattended long-term road tests, with the same equipment and the same file format. The site covers 14 test targets (engine and ECU, traction motor and inverter, battery pack and BMS, thermal management, brake and chassis, ADAS camera and radar, whole-vehicle road and durability testing, crash testing and more), and we propose the equipment and system layout per target.
Q09 How does a project work? (1) Enquiry: tell us what you want to measure, where, and what problem to solve. (2) Proposal: we propose the equipment, the system layout and a quotation per target. (3) Delivery and setup: we deliver and handle installation, wiring and commissioning on site. (4) Ongoing support: analysis, calibration and technical support while you run tests.
Q10 How can I contact INDEX GIKEN? Phone +81-54-374-7495; address 6-44-12 Tamachi, Aoi-ku, Shizuoka-shi, Shizuoka 420-0068, Japan. Please include your company and contact person, the test target and quantities to measure, the test environment, rough channel count and sample rate, timing and quantity, and your existing equipment and software.
Q11 Why is Shizuoka an automotive testing hub? Shizuoka's transport-machinery shipments were about ¥5.06 trillion in FY2023, 2nd in Japan, with a 6.3% national share, 25.6% of the prefecture's manufacturing and 1,085 establishments. It makes 95.4% of Japan's motorcycle internal-combustion engines and 29.7% of its engine electrical parts (69 sites). Engine, electrical-parts and vehicle development and production sit in the same region, which keeps measurement and calibration demand local. (Source: Shizuoka Prefecture, 'Shizuoka no Kogyo' / Economic Structure Survey)
Q12 Which regulations in 2026–2027 raise vehicle test and calibration workload? Euro 7 applies to new car and van types from 29 Nov 2026 and to all new vehicles from 29 Nov 2027, with battery-durability minimums of 80% at 5 years/100,000 km and 72% at 8 years/160,000 km. In Japan, the planned date for UN R155/R156 (cybersecurity/software update) on continuing-production vehicles without OTA capability is 1 May 2026, as stated in an MLIT document. These dates set the certification and verification timeline. (Sources: European Parliament Legislative Observatory; MLIT Japan)
Q13 What is the difference between XCP and CCP? CCP is a legacy CAN-only calibration protocol (version 2.01, 1999); XCP is a bus-independent master-slave protocol for measurement and calibration that runs over CAN, CAN FD, Ethernet, USB and FlexRay. ASAM recommends XCP where possible, and the latest confirmed XCP version is 1.5.0 (30 Nov 2017). (Source: ASAM MCD-1 XCP / CCP)
Q14 What is MF4 (ASAM MDF 4.x)? MDF is ASAM's standard file format for automotive measurement data, and the .mf4 extension corresponds to MDF 4.x. ASAM's version history lists 4.0.0 (2 Jun 2009), 4.1.0 (20 Nov 2012), 4.1.1 (4 Jun 2014) and 4.2.0 (30 Sep 2019); the version a logger actually writes should be checked in the file header. (Source: ASAM MDF)
Q15 How are 800 V-class e-axles measured? An 800 V-class battery pack runs at about 610–835 V (example: 198 cells in series). The HIOKI PW8001 power analyzer's U7001 input unit is 2.5 MS/s, 16-bit, DC to 1 MHz, up to 1500 V DC, and U7005 is 15 MS/s, 18-bit, DC to 5 MHz, up to 1000 V DC. For current, the CT6877A is rated 2000 A with DC to 1 MHz amplitude bandwidth, ±0.04% rdg ±0.008% f.s. basic accuracy and 1000 V AC/DC (CAT III) to earth. (Sources: HIOKI official product pages; voltage class from Electronic Design)
Q16 What share of Japan's 2025 new cars were hybrids? Japan's 2025 new passenger-car sales were 3,836,380 units including kei cars; HEVs were 1,946,439 (about 50.7%) and BEVs 60,604 (about 1.6%), both derived shares. Next-generation vehicles including PHEV, FCEV and clean diesel totalled 57.4%, down from the record 60.5% in 2024. Statistics covering registered cars only (excluding kei) use a different base and are not directly comparable. (Source: JAMA, 'Motor Industry of Japan 2026')
